Overview
What you provide
- Provide typed input, dependencies, permitted tools and a declared output schema for the Python agent.
What you get
- The agent produces validated Python results and tool-call trajectories that the application can inspect or instrument.
Choosing this tool
Pydantic AI fits Python applications that need typed dependencies, tool interfaces and validated structured output inside an agent loop. Its test model helps separate application wiring from model quality, but it does not predict a real model’s decisions. DSPy is more directly aimed at metric-driven optimization; AI SDK is a closer choice when TypeScript streaming interfaces are central. Durable execution requires configuring an execution engine rather than merely installing a package.
A decision worked through
A hundred offline test-model cases do not consume provider inference. Running the same hundred cases against a real model can issue multiple calls per case if tools or retries are involved; budget those calls and tracing retention separately.

Setup & workflow
- Create an agent with a small output schema and only read-only tools.
- Exercise dependency injection and output handling with the test model.
- Evaluate real-model cases and approval boundaries before enabling writes.
Requirements & installation
- Prepare a supported Python environment and install the SDK before configuring provider access or the offline test model.
Limits & review
- A valid type is not a correct answer. Optional observability, gateways and durable backends require separate configuration, while tool side effects need application-level controls.
Your part
- Review tool authorisation and factual correctness even when the returned object passes schema validation.
